		News: May Meeting Set Posted by : assante on Monday, April 14, 2008
		The next meeting of the Sumner County Democratic Party will be in White House on Saturday May 10. We convene at 9:30am in the cafeteria of the Billy S. Hobbs Municipal Center at the corner of 31W and College St. (105 College St., White House, TN.) This will be a joint meeting with the Robertson County Democratic Party and will be the first in our "Democratic Victory Tour" visits to all areas of Sumner County. Breakfast will be served. 		News: SCDP goes to the District Convention! Posted by : secretary on Tuesday, February 26, 2008
		This past Saturday, a group of over 40 Sumner Democrats led by State Executive Committee Members Bill Bassett and Maryanna Clarke and Sumner County Democratic Executive Vice Chair Len Assante traveled to Murfreesboro to attend the 6^thCongressional District Nominating Convention to select delegates to attend the Democratic National Convention in Denver this summer. Thanks to unanimous support from the Sumner County delegation as well as support from several other counties in the 6^th District, Michelle Haynes of Gallatin was elected a delegate pledged to Senator Hilary Clinton. Haynes will be part of the official Tennessee delegation headed by Governor Phil Bredesen. Sumner Democrats will celebrate Haynes’ election at their next meeting, to be held on Saturday, March 8 at 9am at the White House Municipal Center cafeteria. 		News: Constable Candidates Set Posted by : assante on Friday, December 28, 2007
		At our December caucus, the membership of the Sumner County Democratic Party nominated Robert Reich of Gallatin and Franklin Mize of Hendersonville to run for the positions of Constable in the 3rd and 10th County Commission Districts, respectively.Congratulations to Robert and Franky!Our next meeting will be in February. This meeting will be for the purpose of holding the County Convention for delegate selection to the Democratic National Convention this summer. Persons nominated at the county convention will be required to attend the 6th Congressional District Nomination Convention later in February. The Sumner County Democratic Party wishes everyone a joyous holiday season and a happy new year for 2008.


		Sumner Democrats Confront Sen. Black on Education Funding Posted by : assante on Wednesday, April 18, 2007
		Sumner Democrats continue to hold Sen. Diane Black (R-Gallatin) accountable for education funding. Sen Black, who has supported cigarette tax increases in the past, is refusing to support Governor Bredesen's proposal to use a modest increase in the cigarette tax to fund education. Sumner County would receive over $3.2 million for schools from this proposal -funds that would reduce the need for a local property tax increase. Volunteer State Community College, still recovering from last April's tornado, would also benefit from the plan. Chair Andy Allman and Vice Chair Len Assante each have spoken to and written columns for local media in support of the Governor's plan. Assante's latest column appeared in the Sumner am insert of the Sunday Tennesseean. Independent polls indicate broad support for the proposal among Tennesseans (70%) and even among Tennesseans who smoke (60%).SCDP urges all Sumner Democrats to contact their elected officials and encourage them to support the Governor's education inititative.Visit http://www.tnschoolsfirst.com/ for the facts about the Governor's proposal.
